Learning to drive is one of the most important events in a young person’s life and as soon as they turn 17 they are keen to get behind the wheel.

On the other hand, many parents are reluctant to allow their children to practice in their cars because of the cost of the insurance or the worry that their no claims bonus could be at risk.

Now there’s an answer – the Provisional Marmalade policy provides cover for learner drivers whilst practicing in a car owned by someone else.

The policy is designed to sit alongside an existing motor policy and provides fully comprehensive cover whilst the learner driver is practicing driving.

You can insure any car providing it is in insurance group 16 or less and has a current market value of less than £20,000.

You can use the policy to cover the parent’s or a friend’s car whilst learning to drive, without any risk to their insurance. It’s a simple way to get behind the wheel without paying large extra premiums on a standard motor policy.

Any driver who is over 25, who holds a current valid full UK driving licence, and has done for at least three years, can supervise. It need not be the person who owns the car.
