Do I need to use a specialist marine insurance broker or company? No, many high street insurance brokers will be able to arrange your marine insurance, but not all have the necessary expertise to advise you correctly. Do you use just one insurer, or do you search the market? We do have a specialist scheme with a Lloyds insurer, but we do search the market where we feel it is necessary. Do I need a survey for my vessel? It all depends on the construction, length and age of the vessel. Some insurers are also flexible depending on the type. We will advise accordingly. Do I have to secure my outboard engine/s to my vessel? Yes, for further details of these security measures please read our Security & Requirements page. If you are purchasing a new boat, the manufacturers, their dealers and yacht brokers should be aware that this is a standard requirement. Is the quoted policy excess all I have to pay in the event of a claim? No, for craft capable of speeds in excess of 17 knots, the standard policy excess with most insurers will be doubled in respect of any damage caused to underwater gear i.e. outboard leg, casing, gearbox or propeller, by striking a submerged object. If you are VAT registered you will also be expected to pay this. How do I calculate my speed from MPH to Knots? Good question, divide your MPH reading by 1.15. Each Knot is equivalent to 1.15 Miles per hour. How do I pay for my insurance? Either by cheque, direct debit, credit or debit card. Details are available on request, due to security we do not currently accept card payments online.
